The $6 million fundraising round, which supplements the $5 million raised in 2021, builds on a prosperous commercial year. Dark has now landed contracts with the French government and its Space Agency valued at several million dollars. These contracts are intended for future projects, such as new state-of-the-art propulsion innovations and emergency debris removal services using its Interceptor platform.
Venture capital firm Long Journey is situated in the United States and focuses on firms that are category-defining and have revolutionary future ambitions. Investors Lee Jacobs, Arielle Zuckerberg, and Cyan Banister are in the lead. They are participating in this round alongside internal investors Eurazeo and Frst.
“Anduril and SpaceX’s audacious forays into unexplored territory have completely transformed entire sectors. In this exciting new market, Dark is dedicated to increasing space security and shares this pioneering spirit as category inventors. We sensed there was something magically strange about Dark’s founders and staff the moment we met them. Their notable achievements in the European scene demonstrate not only their dedication and conviction but also their inventiveness. Arielle Zuckerberg is Long Journey’s General Partner.
With this financing, Dark will continue to develop and prepare for an orbital defence demonstration by 2026. Dark will make advantage of newly developed internal technology, such as sophisticated radar for detecting space and orbital propulsion designed for controlling re-entry and manipulating big objects in the atmosphere.
“We made a risky investment two years ago, putting our money on two founders who had a plan to acquire space. Since then, Dark’s performance has beyond our anticipations, proving their ability to create novel technologies and functionalities. They are headed toward creating a globally recognized brand that will address a critical issue facing the space sector. We can’t wait to put even more effort into this round”.
