Defence Minister Minto attended the Black Sea Security Conference in Bulgaria, affirming the UK’s support for Ukraine and European security. He highlighted the need for cooperation to address Russia’s aggression in the region, emphasizing ongoing diplomatic efforts to maintain stability alongside European allies.
The goal of the meeting was to foster collaboration and the development of military capabilities in light of Russia’s ongoing threat to regional stability in the Black Sea. In response to Putin’s aggression and unlawful invasion of Ukraine, the conference seeks to strengthen cooperation between the states bordering the Black Sea and its allies.
During the meeting, it was considered how to increase Ukraine’s maritime capabilities both now and in the future. UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps declared the UK’s leadership of the Maritime capabilities Coalition in December 2023.
