The initial contract to supply the U.S. Army with Satellite Communications (SATCOM) as a Managed Service (SaaMS) under a $3.6 million ceiling blanket purchase agreement (BPA) has been awarded to SES’s wholly-owned subsidiary SES Space & Defence. Through this project, commercially leased SATCOM network services will be more streamlined, adaptable, and able to meet changing mission requirements. Global Enterprise Solutions (GES), which SES bought in 2022 and which is currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, was given the contract.
The SaaMS Pilot covers comprehensive, full-featured managed subscription services from beginning to end. By enabling access to commercial teleports and internet services, these services will enhance the SATCOM capabilities of units in three combatant commands (EUCOM, USINDOPACOM, and NORTHCOM) across five different locations.
The providing of services with assured Service Level Agreements (SLAs), such as service availability and committed information rates across service zones, is emphasized by the SaaMS Pilot. The flagship Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Portal from SES Space & Defence will be included into a round-the-clock global Network Operations and Security Centre (NOSC) to support these services and provide network visibility and situational awareness for U.S. Army clients.
SES Space & Defence CEO David Fields stated, “With our multi-orbit strategy and multi-band satellite fleet, we can support the Army with this SaaMS Pilot program. The Army will be able to easily obtain equipment and bandwidth for mission accomplishment as a result of it advancing the SaaMS model.”
