Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, has announced a significant partnership with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) to upgrade its fleet communications from the existing Fleet Xpress (FX) service to Inmarsat’s advanced NexusWave platform. This comprehensive fleet-wide transition will enable MOL to leverage NexusWave’s fully managed bonded connectivity service, accelerating the shipping giant’s ongoing digitalisation efforts.
Local partner JSAT MOBILE Communications will oversee the implementation and support of the NexusWave upgrades across MOL’s diverse fleet, which includes liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, oil tankers, and car carriers.
As MOL’s operational demands and crew connectivity needs evolve, the company aims to transform its vessels into floating offices and homes. NexusWave’s unique capability to bond multiple network layers—including GX Ka-band, LEO, LTE, and resilient L-band—into a single, seamless connection delivers the high-speed, reliable, and unlimited data coverage essential for this vision. Additional benefits include enterprise-grade cybersecurity, 24/7 technical support, and fully transparent pricing to ensure operational peace of mind.
Junichi Yoshiyama, Chief Digital & Information Officer at Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., said:
“Our digitalised and connected ships are rapidly becoming floating operation centres and homes for our crew. Inmarsat’s NexusWave will play a vital role in keeping our teams connected with high-speed internet, supporting our broader onboard digitalisation strategy.”
Ben Palmer, President of Inmarsat Maritime, commented:
“We are honored to continue our partnership with MOL, providing NexusWave as a catalyst for maritime digital transformation. Forward-thinking operators.
