According to information released by Romania’s Supreme Council of National Defence (CSAT), Russian spies have infiltrated the nation through refugees from Ukraine.

The spies’ task was to obtain intelligence on security and defence matters. Additionally, efforts have been made to gather important data regarding Romania’s aid to Ukraine. Additionally, the Russian agents sought information about military drills in Romania and the individuals stationed there. Examples of disinformation campaigns aimed at Romanian officials and the army are also included in the report.
Romania has been exposed to multiple vulnerabilities as a consequence of this espionage operation, according to CSAT. These include of Russia’s cyberattacks, an increase in military incidents, and the disruption of assistance supplies to Ukraine.
The Russian Federation was the primary political and military player involved in all security challenges in the region, according to G4 Media, which has also reviewed the study. The research claims that Russia is still posing serious military threats in an effort to fulfil its geopolitical goals and preserve and expand its control over states around the Black Sea. Russia is still seen as the biggest threat to Finland’s national security, according to a report published in late March by Supo, the security police agency in the country.
Concurrently, the National Security Council in Austria met in reaction to the arrest of Egisto Ott, a former worker of the now-closed Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counterterrorism (BVT), on charges related to espionage.
