Projects jointly carried out by Belarus and Russia are intended to advance the Union State of Belarus and Russia’s scientific and technological capabilities. In a variety of disciplines, up to 60 programs have already been put into place. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Sivak informed BelTA during the plenary session on the importance of interregional cooperation in developing an innovative economy of the Union State of Belarus and Russia that several more projects are in the works.
Anatoly Sivak stated: “The development of positive dynamics in social and economic ties, as well as the expansion of trade between our countries, has been greatly aided by the long-standing cooperation in science, technology, and innovations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.” Given the current state of unrest throughout the world, it is imperative that technological sovereignty be upheld through import substitution, advanced industrial facilities, and limits driven by sanctions.
The Union State of Belarus and Russia’s scientific and technological development policy until 2035 was established in January 2024, according to an official statement. This approach consists of more than 60 active programs in industries such as microelectronics, healthcare, and space technology. Three research and development projects are now under progress, with an emphasis on novel laser equipment, transport vehicle control systems, and spaceship components. According to Anatoly Sivak, among other advances, future Union State programs would build onboard systems for small spacecraft, solar energy equipment, early cancer diagnostic drugs, and high-yield agriculture technology.
