The Australian Defence Force (ADF) will use body armour that the Albanese government has ordered for $30 million from Craig International Ballistics, located in Queensland. The ADF will use the armour in both combat and counterterrorism operations.
The contract demonstrates the government’s dedication to assisting regional small- and medium-sized businesses and a future built in Australia. It will also generate and maintain dozens of employment.
Craig International Ballistics will produce and supply a fresh order of body armour components to help shield troops from moving threats like fragmentation and low and high velocity rounds. Craig International Ballistics has already supplied the ADF with over 600,000 high quality body armour components built in Queensland.
Statements attributed to Pat Conroy, Minister of Defence Industry: “The Albanese Government takes great pride in its backing of Craig International Ballistics, a homegrown success story that works to protect our troops by hiring hardworking Queenslanders, including veterans.”
“For than 20 years, Australian Defence Force soldiers have been protected by Craig International Ballistics’ top-notch body armour, from peacekeeping missions to wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Under the Defence Industry Development Strategy, the Government is supporting our Sovereign Defence Industrial Base and a future created in Australia, and this order with Craig International Ballistics is a perfect example. Our country’s resilient, self-starting defence industry, which is a crucial component of our sovereign defence capability, is modelled after Craig International Ballistics.”
