Global leader in satellite communications Viasat announced today that it has been awarded a contract worth $153 million, at full value, by the Defence Information Services Agency for five years to provide network services and support for the Blue Force Tracker (BFT) program of the U.S. Army Project Manager Mission Command (PM MC). This contract’s period of performance consists of four one-year option periods in addition to a base year.
The Army and combined services have relied on the BFT network for vital situational awareness for over two decades, integrating with tens of thousands of platforms. This endeavour carries on the BFT network modernization initiative, which facilitates the sharing of operational maps and visuals, GPS data on friendly and enemy forces, and near real-time situational awareness between the U.S. military and its allies.
“Viasat continues its support for the global L-Band BFT network, delivering engineering, networking services, and technology innovation to enhance tactical situational awareness. With deep expertise in the BFT mission, Viasat aims to evolve network operations to support real-time decision-making for U.S. military operations. Since 2010, Viasat has provided next-gen BFT equipment and deployed L-Band mobile transceivers on over 100,000 tactical platforms across the U.S. military.”
