The U.S. Navy has given KBR a cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to continue developing space scientific instrument systems at the Naval Research Lab (NRL) in Washington, D.C., the company stated today.
KBR will supply staff, tools, and facilities to assist engineering and research efforts for the Navy’s Space Science Division as part of the Space Science Instruments and Experimental Payloads (SSIEP) 3 contract. The creation, design, analysis, fabrication, inspection, assembly, integration, testing, and documentation of complex space research equipment and experimental payloads will be their main areas of attention.
The advanced engineering work involved in this project, which is estimated to take five years to complete, includes thermal systems, contaminants, optical and radio frequency, instrument systems, mechanisms, mechanical, and electrical. This extension agreement upholds KBR’s presence at NRL where it has supported SSIEP 1 and 2 since 2015.
Our technical innovation leads the way globally at KBR, from digital engineering projects to space hardware. “This victory is a testament to the unwavering work of our gifted engineers, whose skill-ful combination of imagination, accuracy, and pragmatism distinguishes us and guarantees mission success for our esteemed clients,” said Byron Bright, President of KBR Government Solutions U.S.
