The military of Pakistan has reported that it has detained three retired officers as part of its investigation into the activities of former spy head Faiz Hameed, who is accused of corruption and power abuse and is scheduled to appear in court.
According to the military, the arrests were related to Hameed’s legal battle for “actions prejudicial to military discipline.” Hameed oversaw the influential Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) spy organization.
“Fomenting instability at the behest of, and in collusion with, vested political interests” is what it said in a statement, indicating that it is still looking into certain retired officers and their accomplices.
Hameed was detained on Monday and charged with misbehaviour in a case involving a private housing project. According to the military, the Supreme Court-ordered investigation into a complaint by a real estate developer.

It claimed that the former head of the ISI had abused his position to occupy the housing project outside of Islamabad unlawfully.
After Hameed’s retirement, it further listed “multiple instances of violation of the Pakistan Army Act” that it said had also been proven against him. Around 2019 until 2021, Hameed led the ISI under the leadership of the now-incarcerated former prime minister, Imran Khan. In Pakistan’s nearly eight-decade independent history, the military is considered the most powerful institution, having directly ruled the 240 million-person nation for over 30 years.
