The project’s objective is to provide an in-orbit laboratory for the purpose of learning about end-to-end connectivity and the integration of satellites into terrestrial mobile networks. It is anticipated that the outcome will provide important data for the standardization of 6G. The technological potential of the European digital and aerospace industries, as well as broadband connection, can be further enhanced by 6G applications. This creates unimaginable development possibilities and applications.
The only way to achieve seamless network availability and limitless global access to the internet is to link terrestrial networks to extranet locations via space. The groundwork for future communication technology, specifically exceptionally high-data-rate space-based communication hubs for Europe’s digital future, is being laid by this initiative.
The new 6G precursor project is important, as Tesat-Spacecom CEO Thomas Reinartz emphasizes. It will showcase European space capabilities and support technological independence and competitiveness. The project intends to strengthen Germany’s commitment to Europe and regional development by advancing end-to-end communication and 6G technology knowledge through ESA-ARTES activities.
Dr. Siegbert Martin, Chief Technical Officer of TESAT, highlights the importance that ESA and DLR play in strategically developing technologies to improve Europe’s technical sovereignty. In addition to highlighting TESAT’s function as a catalyst for SMEs, science, and non-space industries, the project emphasizes the significance of geo-return principles in forming policy options and promoting innovation in scalable power electronics.
The German Space Agency’s Director General, Dr. Walther Pelzer, is in favor of the 6G LINO project, which aims to develop AI techniques and processing technologies for satellite integration into terrestrial networks, thereby promoting Germany’s non-terrestrial network business.
Antonio Franchi of ESA praises the research for its importance in influencing satellite communication technologies going forward and for being in line with Europe’s 6G strategy.
