Swisscom, the top ICT business in Switzerland, has chosen to use EchoStar Mobile and Actility to increase its LoRaWAN IoT footprint throughout Europe, according to a statement released by EchoStar Mobile Limited, a subsidiary of EchoStar. Actility will perform interworking functions between Swisscom’s terrestrial and EchoStar Mobile’s satellite networks to enable smooth network roaming through Actility’s ThingPark Exchange roaming hub. EchoStar Mobile will supply the capacity to permit direct sensor-to-satellite operations.
According to Fredy Portmann, Head of Connected Business Solutions at Swisscom, “satellite connectivity serves as a powerful complement to our terrestrial LoRaWAN network, enabling the connection of IoT devices abroad as well as in economically challenged rural areas.” “We enable our clients to roll out devices and enjoy a completely borderless experience by integrating EchoStar connection into our Swisscom connection Management Platform in a smooth manner. This dynamic synergy expands the reach of our network, unlocking unprecedented opportunities for businesses in a seamlessly connected world.”
Swisscom used terrestrial connectivity to deliver IoT managed solutions for smart metering, tracking, agricultural, and smart building use cases before partnering with EchoStar Mobile. Swisscom can now provide carrier-grade services and seamless integration of terrestrial and satellite networks to its customers via Actility’s ThingPark Exchange roaming hub.
Telemaco Melia, VP and GM of EchoStar Mobile, stated, “EchoStar Mobile has the unique combination of technology expertise and satellite capacity to help Swisscom expand its LoRaWAN IoT footprint across Europe – serving customers across more verticals and geographies.” Swisscom customers will be able to fully and globally utilize connected IoT ecosystems at scale thanks to these new capabilities.
“LPWAN network operators throughout the industry rely on our ThingPark Exchange roaming hub to facilitate their seamless interconnection with other public, private, and community networks,” stated Actility’s CTO, Alper Yegin. “We are honoured that Swisscom, a longtime technology partner, is using our platform in conjunction with satellite capacity from EchoStar Mobile to provide dependable, seamless pan-European roaming services.”
