LeoLabs, the industry leader in integrated solutions that continuously track space activity to identify safety and security threats, announced today that it has been awarded a second Consolidated Pathfinder order by NOAA’s Office of Space Commerce (OSC) to provide guidance for the creation of the US Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS), which is led by the civil sector.
As the OSC prolongs the pathfinder project’s live data gathering time, this ruling allows LeoLabs to continue supporting the development of TraCSS. This extension aims to investigate other avenues for performance enhancement and carry out further analysis for the goal of validating metrics. Throughout this period, the OSC will persist in utilizing LeoLabs’ internal proficiency, artificial intelligence methodologies, and the most extensive commercial dataset comprising more than 20,000 items and millions of conjunction data messages every day.
The team used the mission planning tool to perform object tasking and validate data flows during the previous live data collection period, which proved to be successful. This addition builds on that success.
LeoLabs Chief Executive Officer Tony Frazier remarked, “Today’s announcement is a positive development towards ensuring the U.S. Traffic Coordination System for Space meets the safety needs of the growing space economy.” “LeoLabs is pleased to contribute our commercial experience, information, and services to this enormous endeavour to quickly implement a traffic coordination system for U.S. civil space.”
The Consolidated Pathfinder is one of several pathfinder initiatives designed to investigate and evaluate commercial Space Situational Awareness (SSA) technologies in order to aid in the development of TraCSS. This order illustrates the US government’s quick progress in creating this system and implementing Space Policy Directive-3 (SPD-3), which mandates the creation of a national Space Traffic Management (STM) service under the control of a civil government organization. By incorporating commercial solutions, the US is not only showcasing its leadership in space safety but also reaffirming its continued support for the space sector.
